The Live Wires Ministry is designed to build on the spiritual foundation that parents are laying at home as well as the foundation that we pray we’ve had the opportunity to partner in laying in the First Steps Ministry. There is nothing quite so exciting as teaching and loving preschoolers as they learn and experience more of the God who loves them.
This ministry is currrently coached by:
Andy and Jennifer Ussery, 585-4950
Before you bring your child to Live Wires…
Before a child can attend a Live Wires Class or Nursery Time, he/she must register at Children/Family Registration in the Lobby. Every child 6 months-2nd grade must be issued a 2-part name tag. One tag is for your child and one is for the parent who will be picking up the child. This is the only way your child may be picked up from class…give the matching tag to an adult volunteer in the classroom. A third tag will be given to you as well to put on your child’s diaper bag.
*When applicable, an “Allergy Alert” Tag will be issued for Severe Allergies. This tag will need to be attached to the Tag the Child is Wearing. *When applicable, a “I’m Potty Training” Tag can be requested to attach to a child’s name tag.
When dropping off your child…
1) Be sure your child has his/her name tag.
2) Be sure you put the Diaper Bag Tag on the Diaper Bag.
3) On Sundays, when entering the Live Wires area at the End of the WEST HALL, please let the Live Wires Greeters know if your child will be staying for the 10:45 Nursery Care time for Live Wires.
3) Be sure you sign your child in on the Sign-in Sheet provided in your child’s classroom. By signing in, this lets us know where you’ll be for the morning or evening. Children in Live Wires are divided into rooms according to their birth dates. Their room number is indicated on the green dot on their name tag. *Special Note: If you are new to Live Wires, Coaches, Andy and Jennifer Ussery can direct you to your child’s classroom. Also, Birthdate Divisions are posted by each classroom door.
Sundays in Live Wires 9:00-10:15
When children arrive, they are greeted by Volunteers who love “Live Wires.” Children are given the opportunity to engage a time of free play with age appropriate toys, games and manipulatives while waiting for other classmates to arrive.
Teachers then present a Bible Story to their class. The curriculum is designed to present Bible truths in a fresh, interactive setting that capitalizes on our children’s need to experience life with all their senses while interacting with the God who made the world they’re so interested in exploring.
A vital part of our Live Wires curriculum is “Wiggly Worship” which follows the Lesson Time that the children have just experienced in their Classrooms. All Live Wires and their Teachers gather in the “Big Room” for this special time of interactive praise and worship. During this time a “Wiggly Worship” Leader and our mascot, Sparky the Lion share songs and stories that relate to the lesson that the children have just heard. Sparky is a special puppet that visits us each week during “Wiggly Worship.”He uses his talents to make application of the Bible story and lesson of the day. He has a toddler-friendly, non-threatening approach that makes him a great friend to all Live Wires. In fact, be sure to ask your Live Wire what Sparky’s favorite song is? This is also a time that the Wiggly Worship Leader will help children practice the “Scripture of the Month” with songs and motions.
After “Wiggly Worship”, Live Wires return to their rooms for a Snack and a follow-up game and/or craft that helps them apply and remember the story of the day.
Class ends at 10:15. Children can be picked up no later than 10:25 or can stay for the Nursery Care time that follows. Parents wanting their children to remain for 10:45 Nursery need to indicate that when signing their children in to class.
Only parents/caregivers or responsible older siblings showing matching tags will be able to pick up their children. Children who have not been picked up by 10:25 will be moved to Live Wires “Plugging In Nursery Care” in Room 131.
Nursery Care for Live Wires 10:45-12:00 Room 131
A team of caring volunteers will come and monitor children during this time. Extended time may include free play, story time, special guests, video, snacks and rest time. Our goal during this time is to love the children and keep them safe.
Pickup is in Room 131.
Out of courtesy to our children and volunteers, be please prompt in picking up your child.
Please have a parent/caregiver or responsible older sibling with the matching tag pick up your child.
Wed. Evenings in Live Wires 6:30-7:30 Room 131
All Live Wires meet in Room 131 for Bible class on Wednesdays. Since repetition is key for this age, Live Wires revisit the story that they heard on Sunday however the story may be presented differently and new activities are introduced to reinforce Biblical truths.
Some FAQs about Live Wires…
When do children promote to Live Wires?
Children will remain in the 25-30+ room until they receive a postcard letting them know that it’s time to promote to Live Wires which is the ministry for children 2.5-4.5 years. We promote children to Live Wires 3 times a year: The last Sunday in September, January and May.
What does my child need to bring to his/her Live Wires Class?
Be sure your child has his/her name tag on and that you have the matching tag. If you are visiting, a volunteer at Children/Family Registration in our church lobby, will be able to help you register your child and issue your child’s 2-part nametag and diaper bag tag.
We want our children to be safe. The purpose of a two-part tag is so that a parent or caregiver has one tag and the baby has the other. At pick-up time, only the person showing the matching tag may pick up a child.
Also, depending on your child’s age and stage will need a well-stocked diaper bag with all contents labeled. Please be sure your child has a change of clothes, diapers, wipes, any necessary sippy cups and food items and of course any item that soothes your child. We want to be able to care for your little one with great love and having anything your child may need helps us do just that.
When do my children promote to Celebration Station?
Children will remain in Live Wires until they receive a postcard letting them know that it’s time to promote to Celebration Station which is the ministry for children 4.5 years-Kindergarten. We promote children to Celebraton Station 3 times a year: The last Sunday in September, January and May.
Where can I get the music that Live Wires sing in “Wiggly Worship?”
We often use songs from CDs by Karyn Henley from her “Playsong Series” They can be purchased by visiting Karyn Henley’s website , www.karynhenley.com and they are available at Lifeway Christian Stores.
May I visit my child’s class?
Absolutely! Parents are ALWAYS welcome. We do ask that when you visit with your child that you wear your child’s matching tag. This is for security purposes. It lets our Team of Volunteers as well as other parents know that you are a Parent Visitor. Thank you!
