Frequently Asked Questions in JAM…

When does my child promote to JAM?

The Sunday after Labor Day, all 3rd Graders arriving at 9:00 should first report to Adventure Zone.  They will be promoted during that 9:00 hour

New 4th Graders should go directly to Room 206 at 9:00.

New 5th and 6th Graders should go directly to Rooms 211/212 on the Sunday after Labor Day at 9:00.

How can I help my JAM student feel connected?

Be here. Be here on time.   We know that sounds simple, and it is.  Being present on Sundays and Wednesdays and at special events is so vital.  Children, just like adults, can’t feel connected to people with whom they are not spending time.  We would also encourage you to get to know the children and families in your child’s Shepherding group.

What are “JAM 34” and “JAM 56”?

“JAM 34” refers to programming, events, etc. for 3rd and 4th Grade Students.

“JAM 56” refers to programming, events, etc. for 5th and 6th Grade Students.

Does my student need a Security Tag?

No.  When students are promoted to JAM, they no longer need to have the 2-part name tags.  JAM students are dismissed on their own on Sundays and WednesdaysWe strongly encourage families to choose a designated PLACE and TIME to meet.  Discuss when your family will be leaving campus.

~If you need to get your child before the 9:00 Hour on Sunday or Wednesday evening service ends, we ask that you come pick up your child personally so we can ensure your child’s safe dismissal.

Will my student wear a Name Tag?

Yes.  There are permanent name tags hanging up in JAM on either side of Room 206.  JAM “34” Tags are one side of Room 206 in the hallway and JAM “56” Tags are on the side of Room 207 in the hallway. Students need to put their tag on when they arrive and place it in the Designated Name Tag Bucket near the JAM Entrance as they leave.

What should my student bring to JAM?

We would love for your child to bring his/her Bible*.  If you do not have one for your child, it would be our pleasure to provide one.  Just contact Suzanne Rowe or Shirley Banning.  Please note, we do not embarrass or scold students who do not bring a Bible.  We do have extra Bibles in our classrooms.  We find it really blesses a student when he/she is able to look up things in his/her own copy of the Word.

And, we want students to bring a heart for God and for people.  Even if they’re just learning about God, we ask that all students bring a respectful attitude toward the Lord and toward fellow students and our Adult Volunteers.

*JAM “34” students are walking through the Old Testament using the “Day-By-Day” Kids’ Bible compiled by Karyn Henley.  We have these available for a suggested donation of $10.00 at Children/Family Registration.

What should my student NOT bring to JAM?

Please, please keep ALL Electronics at home!  Thank you!  Electronic Games are so much fun; however, JAM is not the place for them.  They are distracting and often can be accidentally damaged and/or lost.

Please, please…if your student has a cell phone, we ask that cell phone be turned OFF during JAM  We prefer for students NOT to bring them.  However, if you need for your student to carry one, please remind your student NOT to have his/her phone on during JAM

A note about Camera Phones:  Out of respect for everyone’s privacy and security, we ask that students NOT take pictures with their Camera Phones while in JAM Thank you.

For everyone’s safety, we ask that students NOT wear “Wheelie” shoes.

~Thank you for partnering with us on these items.

How do I find out about filming?

This year, we will mail families of 5th and 6th Graders information regarding filming prior to a Filming Project.  It may be that 4th Graders will be needed as well.  If so, Information will be mailed to 4th Grade Families at that time.

How will we know who our child’s Small Group Shepherd is?

You will receive a Letter of Introduction from your Child’s Small Group Shepherd(s) in October.

What if my student doesn’t hear from his/her Small Group Leader (Shepherd)?

PLEASE notify Suzanne Rowe immediately if your JAM student is not hearing from his/her Shepherd.  Contacting students is an expectation we have for our Shepherds, so please let us know if that is not occurring.

What kind of curriculum does JAM use?

JAM “34” ~ We take an  exciting journey through the “Day-by-Day” Kids’ Bible.  This year, we are exploring the Old Testament.  A Copy of the Weekly Readings is Available at Children/Family Registration and at JAM Registration.  Hopefully, we can put it online in an easy-to read fashion. God’s Word is full of amazing stories that help us learn to Love Him, Love Each Other and Serve our World.  If you’d like to obtain a copy of the “Day-by-Day” Kids’ Bible, we have some available for a suggested donation of $10.00  at our Children/Family  Registration Desk.  We’d love for students and families to follow along with us.  ~This is for Sundays and Wednesdays.

JAM “56” ~. Our students have a lot on their mind and are being challenged by many things in our world.  We have an amazing opportunity to join God in ministering to our young people.  The “curriculum” for “56” is really “Real Life Conversations.  We believe Jesus was all about helping us live real lives ~lives that are committed to Him, growing in Him, sharing Him, and enjoying Him.  .” We are using some material from Group Publishing called, “Grapple”  and other sources to help facilitate these conversations.  ~On Wednesday Nights, “56″ Students will be exploring the words of  Jesus in what we’re calling, “Red Letter Conversations.”  We want to know how it looks to live like Jesus.

Is the Lord’s Supper offered in JAM?

Yes:  After Small Group Shepherding ends at 10:15, any student, volunteers and moms and dads who would like to gather to share in Communion may do so in Room 206.  There will be an Adult Volunteer to lead that special time.

What’s “Snack Shack?”

On the Last Sunday of the Month, the JAM Ministry provides snacks for students immediately following Small Group Shepherding.  This provides a little extra time to visit and have something yummy to munch.

How will our family know when JAM activities are?

We will publish events in “Life Together” and keep you informed through mail-outs and our website.

As a parent, how can I plug into the JAM Ministry?

So glad you asked!  We love parents!  You are your child’s first and most important Children’s Minister.  We are here to partner with you.  We have opportunities available in JAM and in other ministries where you can use your gifts to honor the Father and bless your child and others.  Volunteering weekly and/or at special events is a wonderful way for moms and dads to build community with other parents and for your children to see you connecting with other believers.  See Suzanne Rowe for more information.

What if I have a suggestion or question about JAM?
